Hawks Advance With 4-0 Win Over John Jay

Staten Island, NY – Sophomore catcher Jacqueline Frank (Broad Channel, NY/Stella Maris) hit a single to left field that drove in the winning run in the bottom of the fourth inning as the #1 Hawks defeat #4 John Jay 4-0 to advance to the second day of the CUNY Athletic Conference Softball Championship Tournament at the CSI Softball Complex in Staten Island, NY.

The Hawks will now play the winner of #3 Baruch College vs. #2 College of Staten Island on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the CSI Softball Complex. The tournament, which is double-elimination format, continues today with the Baruch/Staten Island game at 2:00 p.m. and then the loser of that game will play John Jay at 4:00 p.m.

Things started off rough for the Hawks who stranded eight runners in the first three innings, but were finally able to get things going in the bottom of the fourth. After loading the bases for the third time, Frank brought in what would become the winning run with a single and then junior outfielder Jennifer Damroth (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) hit a RBI single to right field.

Hunter then tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth when an RBI single by junior second baseman Catherine Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) brought in a run and then a John Jay throwing error allowed for another Hawk to cross home plate.

Senior right- hander Allyshia West (Owen Sound, ON/West Hills Secondary) was impeccable on the mound, striking out six batters and allowing just two hits in her third complete game shutout of the season. Freshman Angela Lam (Brooklyn, NY/Newton) went the full seven innings with one strikeout and gave up three earned runs in defeat for the Bloodhounds.
