Stephanie Damroth pitched her first no-hitter on Saturday, going five innings, striking out four batters in five innings of action with her teammates helping out from the plate, scoring 14 runs in a 14-0 victory in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of John Jay College on Saturday afternoon in Staten Island, NY.
In a game that was originally suspended after two innings on Tuesday, was started from scratch on Saturday and the Hawks simply dominated from the get go, scoring at least two runs in every inning. Junior catcher
Jacqueline Frank drove in two runs in the top of the first. She would finish the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and batted in. Then the Hawks broke the game wide open in the top of the fourth with a six-run inning spurred by a three RBI double from senior
Nicole Grilli.
In the second game, sophomore short stop
Megan McKenna hit a single to right center that drove in a run to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Then in the top of the fourth inning, the Bloodhounds loaded the bases and walked in the game winning run.
Grilli got the start on the mound for Hunter, going four innings with one earned run before Damroth closed out the game not allowed a run or hit in three innings of action.
Hunter now improves to 12-16 on the year and remain atop the CUNY Athletic Conference with a 7-1 record. They will be back in action on Sunday, when they host Ramapo College for a non-conference doubleheader at the College of Staten Island at Noon.
