Hawks Clinch 14th Regular Season Title with 3-1 Win Over CSI

Staten Island, NY – Senior outfielder Jennifer Damroth (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) came up clutch in the first innings, with a two-run double to right-center field to give the Hawks a two run lead and the eventual victory to clinch the program's 14th regular season championship and the ever important top seed heading into next week's Championship Tournament.

On the mound for the Hawks was senior Nicole Grilli who went all seven innings, giving up just one earned run and only seven hits for her tenth win of the season and 29th of her career.

Junior outfielder Stephanie Alves continued her strong play from the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored, while senior designated player Brittany Jackolski went a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored. Jackolski's run came in the top of the sixth inning when sophomore short stop Megan McKenna sacrifice flied to left field, giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

The Dolphins were able to get a run across the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning after sophomore first baseman Joanna Tepedino led the inning off with a double to left field and was brought home two batters later.

The Hawks were then shutout in the second half of the doubleheader, falling to 16-20 on the year after an 8-0 game, but still clinched the top seed with the win in the first game.

The Hawks will be back in action on Sunday when they host FDU – The College at Florham for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Murphy Field on the campus of Fordham University. The Hunter Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be hosting its Annual National Student-Athlete Day on Sunday as well, with special awards handed out in between games.
