Bronx, NY – Senior second baseman Catherine Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) opened up the first inning with a single and then was brought home by sophomore short stop Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood) on a sacrifice fly two batters later to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead that would eventually turn into a 4-3 victory over FDU-Florham in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Murphy Field on the campus of Fordham University.

Hunter extended their lead to two runs in the bottom of the fourth when a double by freshman third baseman Arielle Zieff brought home senior right fielder Jennifer Damroth. Hunter picked up two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth with some smart base running, scoring on a wild pitch and a pass ball.

The Devils attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh, started by a solo homerun over the high fence in left field by the designated player Megan McInaw. However, the Hawks picked up two outs and sophomore Stephanie Damroth struck out the final batter to claim the victory in Hunter's final regular season contest.

S. Damroth pitched seven innings, striking out six batters and allowing one earned run for her sixth win of the season. FDU freshman Megan Golembiewski takes the defeat, going six innings with three strikeouts and three earned runs.

In the first game, the Hawks got on the board first, but a six-run second inning put the Devils ahead and they never looked back. McInaw earned the win for FDU, pitching five innings with one strikeout and one earned run.

Hunter will open up the 2009 CUNY Athletic Conference double-elimination championship tournament on Friday as the top seed with their opponent to be decided this week. This year's softball tournament will be held at Queen College in Flushing, NY with Hunter as the host school.
