Montclair, NJ – After seven innings of action, the scoreboard read all zeroes with senior right-hander Nicole Grilli (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) pitching one of the best games of her career, but it would be a fielding error that caused the game's only run as Montclair State took advantage of the international tiebreaker rule to win 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday at the MSU Softball Stadium in Montclair, NJ.

Grilli went 7.2 innings in the first game, allowing seven hits and no earned runs. In the second game, the Hawks were shut down from the plate, going seven innings without recording a hit. Grilli pitched 4.1 innings in the second stanza, allowing five earned runs off nine hits before freshman Lauren Stensland (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) relieved her in the bottom of the fifth inning and finished the game with no runs, one hit and striking out one batter.
