Flushing, NY – After falling to Staten Island in their first game of the day, 6-5, the Hawks fought back and defeated Baruch in the elimination game 3-0, but weren't able to get past Staten Island who took the sixth game of the CUNYAC double-elimination tournament 4-2 to clinch the 2009 Softball Championship on Saturday afternoon at Queens College in Flushing, NY.
The Hawks conclude the 2009 season with a 19-23 record and finished the regular season in first place with an 8-2 conference record.
Sophomore short stop
Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood) finishes the two-day tournament 6-of-14 with six runs batted in and five runs scored. Senior second baseman
Catherine Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) also recorded six hits in 14 at bats along with two runs scored in four games.
Sophomore
Stephanie Damroth (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) finishes the tournament with a 2-1 record, pitching 20.2 innings in four appearances, three starts, striking out 16 batters, allowing 12 hits and three earned runs. She finishes her 2009 campaign with an 8-8 record.
Senior
Nicole Grilli (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) pitched 6.1 innings in two appearances during the playoffs, striking out three batters, allowing six hits and seven runs, two earned. She finishes up her four-year career with a 29-24 record, finishing fourth all-time in wins in the program's history. She also finishes third all-time in strikeouts with 165 and third in shutouts with nine.
