Poughkeepsie, NY – On Sunday, November 14, the men's fencing team traveled to Poughkeepsie, New York to compete in the Vassar Invitational. The match featured stiff competition from Stevens University, Vassar College, Scared Heart University, Drew University and Haverford College as the Hawks posted a 0-5 record on the weekend.
The Hawks came close to notching their first win on the season against Vassar as sophomore Issac Orbe won each of his three bouts at sabre to help Hunter to a 5-4 sabre win. Despite two bout wins each by Jose Samora and Nick Burney, they fell 5-4 in foil and epee by the same score to fall just shy of a win, 14-13.
Other highlights came from Samora, who picked up three more wins to lift the foil squad over Stevens while Nick Burney picked up three bouts against Drew.
The Hawks are back in action on December 3rd to compete against Army. The bout is scheduled to begin at 7 PM.
