Montclair, NJ – The Hunter softball team was in action on Wednesday, but for the first time this season, they dropped a doubleheader, falling 11-3 and 8-0 to Montclair State University in non-conference action in Montclair, NJ.
Trailing 1-0 after three innings, sophomore third baseman
Arielle Zieff (Staten Island, NY/Port Richmond) singled to centerfield to bring a run across the plate and tie things up. However, the Red Hawks answered back in the bottom half of the inning with eight runs to take a 9-1 lead. The Hawks were then added two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but Montclair scored two more in the bottom half to take the 11-3 five-inning victory.

Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood), freshman first baseman
KayTee Bauer (Bronx, NY/Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) each finished 1-for-2 with one run batted in and one run scored. Zieff also went 1-for-2 with a run batted in.

Stephanie Damroth (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) struck out two batters and gave up six earned runs in 4.1 innings of action to fall to 4-2 on the year.
The Hawks then struggled to find their bat in the second game, recording just two hits with senior catcher
Jacqueline Frank (Broad Channel, NY/Stella Maris) and junior outfielder
Christina Baker (Brooklyn, NY/St. Saviour) each finishing 1-for-2. Sophomore
Lauren Stensland (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) gave up her second decision of the season after allowing six earned runs in four innings on the mound.
The Hawks (8-4, 4-0 CUNYAC) will look to rebound when they return to action on Tuesday, April 6, facing Old Westbury for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
