Mahwah, NJ – Senior catcher
Jacqueline Frank (Broad Channel, NY/Stella Maris) kept the Hawks alive with two home runs after going 2-for-2 from the plate, but with a tie score in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Ramapo Roadrunners were able to score a run to take the second game 6-5 after shutting the Hawks out 8-0 in game one to complete the non-conference sweep on Sunday afternoon in Mahwah, NJ.
The Hawks were blanked in the first game as Ramapo sophomore Lauren Shaw pitched a perfect five innings, despite striking out just one batter. In the field, the Hawks struggled, committing seven errors that resulted in five runs for the Roadrunners.
Junior
Stephanie Damroth (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) went all four innings in game one, allowing three earned runs, seven hits and striking out a batter for her fourth loss of the season.
Senior outfielder
Stephanie Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) opened up the second game with a walk and a batter later came home on an error by the Roadrunners to put the Hawks up 1-0. Ramapo then answered back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two quick runs to grab a 2-1 advantage. Frank then tied things up in the top of the third inning, going the distance with a homer over the centerfield fence. Ramapo then recaptured the lead in the bottom of the third.
Freshman second baseman
Molly Meehan (Pearl River, NY/Albertus Magnus) reached on a single in the top of the fifth and worked her way around the bases before scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3. Two batters later,
Frank hit her fourth homer of the season, driving in two runs that put the Hawks up 5-3. Following the theme of the day, Ramapo was able to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth when sophomore second baseman Amanda Kent hit a two-run homer. Then in the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied at six and two outs, senior centerfielder Katie Donnelly single to right field to being the winning run across the plate.
Sophomore
Lauren Stensland (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) takes her fourth defeat of the season on the mound for the Hawks after allowing four earned runs and struck out a batter in 6.2 innings of action.
Frank finished the day 2-for-2 with three runs batted, two runs scored and was walked twice.
Hunter (10-8, 4-2 CUNYAC) return home on Tuesday when they will meet up with John Jay College for a CUNY Athletic Conference doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. at the CSI Softball Complex in Staten Island, NY.
