Full Results

Wilkes-Barre, PA - On Saturday, February 12, the men's wrestling team competed in a tri-meet match between the University of Scranton and host Kings College. The Hawks posted a 1-1 record for the day, beating out the Royals of Scranton by a score of 27-15, but fell to the Monarchs 22-17. With the split, Hunter's record stands at 2-16.

The day kicked off with Oliver Lopez earning Hunter's first win with a 7-5 decision over Scranton's Mike Murcia in the 125 pound class. Chris Gogatz followed Lopez with an 11-6 decision over his opponent, as did Ariel Guererro with a major decision over Kevin Williams, 10-2. Sean Messina continued the trend with a pin against Adam Gault in fifty seconds. In the 165 weight class, Jesse Capello-Colon struggled with his opponent as it went into overtime, but came out victorious with a 6-4 decision. Emman Sarwari and Alan Djokic were successful in their weight classes, closing out the match for the Hawks with a final score of 27-15.

The match against King's College seemed to be in Hunters favor as the Hawks swept the first four weight classes. Oliver Lopez, Chris Gogatz, and Ariel Guererro all had decisions over the Monarchs, as Sean Messina had a major decision over Chris Mazzocchi with a score of 9-0. Alan Djokic would be the Hawk's only win thereafter as the Monarchs won the rest of the weight classes and earned a 22-17 victory in the process to put them at 2-0 on the day.

The Hawks are back in action on Sunday, February 27th when they travel back to Kings College to compete in the Metropolitan Championships beginning at 10am.
