New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College wrestling team hit the mats at the NY vs. PA Duals on Saturday, hosted by New York University, facing off against Keystone College, Penn College, and Wilkes University. The Hawks opened the day with an impressive 30-18 victory over Keystone, marking their second win of the season, before falling to Wilkes University and Penn College, 51-5 and 54-5, respectively.
Against Keystone, the Hawks had wins from Ricky Tucubal (133 lbs),
Naman Bhasin (141 lbs), Komil Ismoilov (149 lbs),
Jayden Medina (157 lbs),
Martin Palomeque (165 lbs), and
Nicholas D'Erasmo (174 lbs). Ismoilov, Medina, Palomeque and D'Erasmo all bumped up weight classes to help the team effort.
Top performers of the day included, Media, who continues to standout for the Purple and Gold, as he went 3-0 with three bonus point wins, including a fall over Codi Bomboy og Keystone, and two tech falls over David M'Balla (Penn) and Jacob Bettencourt (Wilkes).
Bhasin took a hard fought 4-0 decision over Justin Santiago of Keystone, to spark the team's effort and kick off momentum for the team win. Also in the Keystone dual, Palomeque had a strong 17-3 tech fall over Dalten Klinges, while D'Erasmo put up 20 points against Mariano Monacelli enroute to his 20-10 major decision victory.Â
Against Wilkes,
Justin Riello (157 lbs.) had an impressive come-from-behind pin over Mitchell Sutter.
The Hawks return to the mat on Jan. 25 for the team's second home trimatch of the season against Waynesburg University and Johns Hopkins.Â
