Brooklyn, NY - The Hunter College softball team kicked off conference play against Brooklyn College on Friday, March 25, taking home their first CUNYAC victory of the season with an 8-3 win in game one, while settling for a tie in the second match-up.

The Hawks wasted no time getting on the board in game one, jumping out to an early 3-1 first inning lead. The first two runs came courtesy of a fielder's choice followed by a Bulldogs error, allowing Julia Lipovac and Crissette Maxwell to score. The Hawks added their third run on an RBI single off the bat of Arielle Zieff.

Angel Iacovetti added to Hunter's lead in the third inning with a solo homer, her third of the season, to bring the score to 4-0.

Two innings later the Hawks struck again, using an RBI double by Christina Baker to take a 5-0 lead.

The Bulldogs finally got on the board against the Hawks' starter Iacovetti, in the bottom of the sixth, plating a single run. However, the Hawks wasted no time getting the run back, scoring three more runs in the seventh on RBI singles from Sophia Ponce and Lipovac.

The Bulldogs would score two more runs in the bottom of the inning, but Iacovetti finished strong, striking out the final batter of the game to give the Hawks the 8-3 win. With the complete game victory, Iacovetti improved her record to 4-0. In seven innings of work she gave up three runs, only one of which was earned, while striking out 13.

In game two, the Hawks once again took an early lead, taking advantage of two errors and a two-run single from Molly Meehan. It was a short-lived lead however, as the Bulldogs quickly got the runs back against Hawks' starter, Amanda Annicaro, plating four in the bottom of the inning to knot the score at four.

The Hawks quickly retook the lead in the top of the second. Crissette Maxwell got the Hawks started, reaching first on a walk. The next hitter, Julia Lipovac, singled putting runners on first and second. One batter later, Zieff gave Hunter the lead with an RBI double. Iacovetti followed that up with a double of her own, plating two more to give the Hawks a 7-4 lead.

Once again, the Bulldogs rebounded, scoring three runs of their own on three hits in the bottom of the inning.

Hunter responded in the top of the third, plating two more runs after taking advantage of two Bulldog errors, to retake the lead once more.  In keeping with the trend, the Bulldogs wasted no time retying the game with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to bring the score to 9-9, which would be the final as both teams exchanged zeroes over the final three innings.

With the win and the tie, the Hawks' record currently stands at 5-1-2. The team will return to action when they take on Montclair State University on March 29. The game is set to kick off at 3pm.
