Hawks Split Double-Header Against Conference Rival Baruch

New York, NY-- The Hawks returned to conference action, splitting a double-header against Baruch on Saturday, April 9. After dropping the first game 4-3, Hunter rebounded in the second match-up, walking away with a 9-1 victory.

Game 1

The Hawks got on the board first, plating a run in the first on an RBI single off the bat of Arielle Zieff.

The Hawks' starter, Angel  Iacovetti managed to hold the Bearcats off the board until the fifth when the Baruch offense finally broke through, scoring two runs on two hits to take the 2-1 lead.

Hunter would even things up n the bottom of the inning, when Julia Lipovac scored on an error by the Bearcats second basemen, Julia Giustiniani.

The Bearcats immediately responded in the top of the sixth, scoring two more runs on two hits and an error to retake the lead at 4-2.

The Hawks would get one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from Crissette Maxwell to pull within one but that was as close as they would get, as Baruch closed out the 4-3 victory.

Iacovetti was credited with the loss to drop her record to 5-4. In seven innings of work, she gave up four runs, three earned on six hits.

Game 2

In the second game of the match-up, the Hawks once again got on the board first, scoring three runs in the first inning to take the early lead. With one out, Megan McKenna walked. One out later, Sophia Ponce, drove in the first run of the game with an RBI double. After Zieff walked, Josephine Estevez added to the Hawks' lead with a two run double to center field to bring the score to 3-0.

Hunter would add to the lead in the bottom of the second, on an RBI single from McKenna.

The Hawks broke the game open the following inning, scoring five runs on five hits. Molly Meehan, Maxwell, and McKenna each contributed RBIs in the inning for a 9-0 Hunter lead.

The Bearcats finally got to Hawks' starter, Amanda Annicaro in the fourth, scoring their only run of the game when Ashley Brandow stole home.

With the win, the Hawks evened their record out at 8-8-2, while Baruch dropped to 4-10. Annicaro was credited with the victory to improve her record to 3-3. In five innings, she gave up just one run on one hit while striking out two.

The Hawks will return to action when they take on the John Jay College of Criminal Justice on April 12.
