New York, NY-- The Hawks finished out a strong week on Friday, April 15, completing their second consecutive sweep, this time against York College, receiving a complete game shut-out from
Angel Iacovetti in a 17-0 game one win, before taking game two, 17-2.
In game one, the Hawks offense was on fire from the start, taking advantage of two Cardinal errors to plate four runs. Iacovetti recorded two RBIs in the inning, while
Christina Baker added one of her own.
The Hawks would continue to add to their lead the following inning, scoring four more runs on three hits and an error, two of which crossed the plate courtesy of a two run double off the bat of
Josephine Estevez.
It was more of the same for Hunter in each of the next three innings as they plated one more in the third, five in the fourth, and three in the fifth.
The player of the game was undoubtedly Iacovetti, who was credited with the win to improve her record to 7-4. In five innings of work she struck out 14 while walking just two. Additionally she led the team on offense, going 2-3 with three RBIs, two walks, and two runs scored.
The Hawks' offense picked up right where it left off in game one, quickly plating three runs in the first of game two, one coming on an RBI single from
Arielle Zieff, with the second and third runs of the inning scoring on a two-run single off the bat of Baker.
From there the Hawks did not let up, scoring two more in both the second and third innings, before breaking the game wide open in the fourth, plating nine runs, highlighted by Zieff's first homerun of the year. Hunter would score one more in the fourth on the way to their 17-2 victory.
Amanda Annicaro received the victory to improve to 5-3 on the season. In her five innings of work, she gave up two runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits and a walk, while striking out four.
With the two victories, the Hawks improved to 12-8-2 on the season, with a 6-1-1 mark in the conference.
