New York, NY-- The Hunter College softball team finally saw their win streak come to an end on Thursday, April 21, as they were defeated by SUNY Old Westbury in the first game of the double-header 1-0, before rebounding with a 5-3 victory in game two.
The Hawks' freshman phenom, Angel Iacovetti, received the start in game one and was credited with the loss despite allowing just one run on four hits in her six innings of work. Despite her impressive performance, the Hawks were unable to break through against Panthers' starter, Alyssa Clancy, tallying just three hits in the game.
The Hawks' offense got back on track in the second game however, wasting no time getting on the board. Crissette Maxwell got Hunter started with a single up the middle, followed by an RBI double off the bat of Julia Lipovac for a 1-0 Hawks lead. Lipovac would come around to score later in the inning on an error, to bring the score to 2-0.
The Panthers responded two frames later, plating three runs against the Hawks' game two starter, Amanda Annicaro to take a 3-2 lead.
It would be short-lived however as Josephine Estevez knocked in two in the top of the third to help the Hawks retake the lead. Hunter would add their fifth and final run after Estevez scored on another Panther error.
With the split, the Hawks are now 17-9-2 on the season. Annicaro recorded the win to improve to 7-3. In her seven innings of work, she gave up three runs on seven hits, while striking out three.
