New York, NY-- The Hunter College softball team put up a fight against their first place CUNYAC foe, the College of Staten Island, but were unable to record a victory as they fell 2-0 and 4-3, in the two games on Saturday, April 22.

Angel Iacovetti continued her impressive freshman campaign in game one, receiving the start for the Hawks. Iacovetti gave the Hawks just what they needed, a strong effort, but the Hunter offense was unable to break through against Dolphins' starter, Danielle Ponsiglione, as they were shut-out in the first game of the double-header, 2-0.

The Hawks managed only three hits in the contest, with one each coming from Crissette Maxwell, Sophia Ponce, and Arielle Zieff. Iacovetti received the loss to drop her record to 10-6. In her six innings of work, she gave up two earned runs on five hits, while striking out six.

The Hawks finally got on the board in the second game, taking their first lead of the day in the third inning. KayTee Bauer would score the first run of the game on an error, while Megan McKenna added to the Hawks' lead with a sacrifice fly to center.

The Dolphins got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning. The Hawks however, responded in the top of the fourth on a solo homerun off the bat of Zieff, to bring the score to 3-1.

The Dolphins offense was not done, however, scoring another run in the fifth and two in the sixth against the Hawks' game two starter, Amanda Annicaro, to take a 4-3 lead they would not lose.

Annicaro received the loss to drop her record to 7-4. In her six innings of work, she gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits, while striking out two.

With today's softball games postponed due to the weather and field conditions, the Hawks will return to action on Tuesday, April 26, when they take on Drew University at 3pm in Madison, NJ.
