New York-- It was a rough day for the Hunter College softball team on Thursday, April 7, as the Hawks scored just one run in a double-header against Ramapo College, losing 9-0 and 11-1 respectively.
In game one, what first appeared to be a pitcher's duel throughout the first three innings, ultimately proved to be a 9-0 shutout for the Roadrunners. Ramapo first broke through against the Hawks' starter, Angel Iacovetti in the fourth inning, plating a run on an RBI single off the bat of Stephanie Malgeri.
Two innings later, the Roadrunners would add to their lead, plating three runs on four hits to bring the score to 4-0.
Ramapo broke the game open an inning later on three consecutive homeruns leading off the inning. In all in the sixth, the Roadrunners would score five runs on six hits for a 9-0 lead, which would be the final.
Iacovetti, took the loss to drop her record to 5-2. In seven innings of work, she gave up nine runs on 13 hits, while striking out six.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Roadrunners' offense picked up right where it left off in the second game, plating four runs against Hawks' starter, Amanda Annicaro, in the first inning.
After adding to their lead with another run in the second inning, the Roadrunners would score another in the fourth and two more in the fifth before Annicaro was removed in favor of game one starter, Iacovetti.
Once again, Iacovetti struggled against the Roadrunners' strong offense, allowing three runs in the sixth and final inning.
The Hawks would score their only run in the second inning on an RBI single from Christina Baker. The team managed just three hits in the contest and only seven hits on the day.
Annicaro received the loss to drop her record to 2-3. In five innings of work she gave up eight runs on 11 hits, while striking out one.
