Staten Island, NY – Earlier today, the Hawks continued play in the CUNYAC/Pepsi Softball Championships on the campus of the College of Staten Island. In the first of two game in the double elimination tournament, Hunter took on rivals Baruch College and fell by a score of 4-2 but bounced back in the second game with a 3-2 win over Brooklyn College. With the split, the Hawks move their record to 21-13-2.
Game 1
Baruch got off to an early start with a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first by Melanie Pelligrino who stole second to put her team in scoring position. A single by Nicole Flint scored the Pelligrino for the first run of the game.
The Hawks responded in the top of the second when
Arielle Zieff cranked a double to left center.
Josephine Estevez hit a shot through the left side to score Zieff, evening the slate at one a piece.
After a scoreless third, Michelle Runko hit a two run homerun over the right field fence, giving Baruch a 3-1 lead. In the top of the fifth, a
Julia Lipovac double scored teammate Crisette Maxwell to cut the lead to one. However, it's as close as the Hawks would get as Baruch went on to put one more run on the board and forcing Hunter into a must win second game against Brooklyn.
Angel Iacovetti tossed six innings and gave up four runs on just three hits while fanning six. Bearcat hurler Flint went the distance and gave up eight hits and two runs.

Molly Meehan, giving Hunter a quick 1-0 lead. With one on and one out, Zieff doubled to right center scoring Lipovac for their second run of the inning.
Brooklyn got on the board in the top of the second on an RBI double by Ashley Allen. The Hawks notched another run as Sophia Ponce hit a sac fly to score Lipovac, extending the lead 3-1.
Tara Diesel smacked a home run to right center, cutting the deficit back down to one, but their efforts would be stopped there. Hunter held off the Bulldogs in the final innings of the game, ending Brooklyn's season
