Staten Island, NY – On Saturday, May 7, the softball team entered the third day of the CUNYAC tournament hosted by the College of Staten Island. After beating Lehman on the first day, then falling to Baruch and knocking out Brooklyn on day two, the Hawks entered the third and final day of the double elimination tournament in a must win situation against Baruch. Two early Hawk runs in the first almost lasted the entire game until the bottom of the seventh when the Bearcats rallied to score three runs on three hits, putting an end to Hunter's season, 3-2. With the loss, the softball team closes the books on their 2011 season with an overall record of 20-14-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, with the Hawks still up 2-0, a single and a walk put runners on first and second with one out. Andrea Tepfer grounded to McKenna who got the lead runner at third for the second out with runners still on first and second. However, the Hawks found themselves in a jam as a walk juiced the bases. With just one swing of the bat, a single up the middle by Elizabeth Santos tied the game at two. Brandow followed it up with another single to drive in the game winning run, leaving the Hawks on the short end of a 3-2 score.
