New York, NY – The Hunter softball team has been selected to compete in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC) softball Championship as announced by the selection committee earlier today. The Hawks are among six teams selected to compete in the Metropolitan Division.
The #6 seeded Hawks (21-14-2) will take on the #3 seeded Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury (20-11) on Wednesday, May 11 at 5:00 pm at Old Westbury, Long Island. Back in mid-April, the two teams squared off in a double header which resulted in a split; 1-0 in favor of Old Westbury in the first game and 5-3 with Hunter coming out on top.
Hunter is coming off of a CUNYAC playoff run that ended in dramatic fashion, losing to Baruch in the bottom of the seventh, 3-2. However, the squad will look to better their ECAC showing from a year ago when they lost to SUNY Farmingdale by a score of 10-2 in the first round.
The Panthers are coming off of an early Skyline Conference Tournament exit where they were defeated by NYU-Poly, 11-8 in the first game and 2-1 by Mount Saint Mary's in the second.
The seeding for the ECAC Tournament is as follows:
#1 - Ramapo College
#2 - Mt. St. Mary
#3 - Old Westbury
#4 - Richard Stockton
#5 - Steven's Tech.
#6 - Hunter College
Ramapo and Mt. Saint Mary receive byes in the first round while Richard Stockton will face Steven's Tech.
