Men's Basketball Tripped Up By Drew, 70-54

The Hawks had three players in double digit scoring.

Matthew Hunter led the Hawks with 17 points.
BOX SCORE Madison, NJ - On Saturday, November 24, the Hunter men's basketball team took on the Rangers of Drew University in a non-conference contest. After falling behind by nine at the half, the Hawks did not have enough in the tank to close the gap in the second, ultimately falling by a score of 70-54. With the loss, Hunter slips to 2-3 while the hosts move to 1-3.

Matthew Hunter led all Hawks with 17 points on 7-17 shooting from the field to compliment his five rebounds while teammates Ben Mayell and Lorenzo Brown each chipped in with 10 points. Brian Kruger did his part with seven pointes and three steals.

It was a back and forth affair for the initial seven and a half minutes with a jumper by Taulant Ibraj gave the Purple and Gold a four point lead at 15-11, their largest of the game. However, an 11-0 Ranger run shifted the momentum and turned a Hunter cushion into a seven point deficit with just over nine minutes remaining in the half.

Kruger temporarily stopped the bleeding with a made triple and helped Hunter pull to within two points on two occasions, but eigh unanswered points forced the hawks to slip into a 10 point hole, eventually heading into halftime down by nine at 37-28.

In the second, four straight points by Hunter to open the half brought his team to within five, but it would be as close as they would get. The Hawks slipped into a double digit deficit that would grow to as much as 17. As time wound down, the Rangers would come away with the 70-54 victory.

The Hawks are back in action on Monday, November 27 when they open up CUNYAC play against cross-town rivals, Baruch College at the Hunter Sportsplex at 7 pm.
