BOXSCORE - Game One
BOXSCORE - Game Two

NEW YORK, NY -
The Hunter College softball team had an offensive explosion in its CUNYAC season opener as it defeated visiting York College 12-4 and 14-4 in a pair of five inning games at Randall's Island this afternoon.

Hunter (5-7, 2-0 CUNYAC) took advantage of four Cardinal errors and made use of timely hitting in today's double-dip as three Hawks finished game one with two hits apiece, including Crissette Maxwell, Josephine Estevez and Julia Lipovac. Reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week Sophia Ponce went yard for the second time this week, drilling a three-run bomb to left in the 12-4 victory. Ponce also homered in game two, finishing 2-for-2 with a game-high three RBI and two runs scored while Briana Kresback was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Amanda Annicaro (3-1) went the distance and allowed just four runs on as many hits while striking out five.

After taking an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, Hunter capitalized on three York miscues in the second to plate runs while Molly Meehan a RBI groundout and Estevez drilled a RBI single to cap thet scoring efforts.

Hunter added another run in the bottom half of the third sac-fly RBI from Maxwell to make it an 8-0 affair before the Cardinals retailiated.

York scored two runs atop the fourth and then two more atop the fifth to cut the Hawks' lead to just four, 8-4.

The Hawks got all four runs back in the home half of the inning though to claim a 12-4 victory as Ponce smashed a three-run shot to the left center gap while Lipovac scored later in the frame on a passed ball to cut the contest short at five innings.

York opened game two by scoring three runs in the first inning. Hunter returned fire in the home half of the stanza, tying the game with three runs before using a nine-run second inning to put the game out of reach. Ponce, Kristen McGoldrick and Estevez each notched RBI singles in the frame while Megan O'Shea and Lipovac drove in runs on doubles as the Hawk lineup bat around.

Ponce drove her second home run of the game over the centerfield wall to plate two more runs for the Hawks in the bottom of the third, scoring Kresback who led off the inning with a triple to put Hunter ahead, 14-3.

York managed just one more run in the fifth and final inning, accounting for tonight's final, 14-4.

Angel Iacovetti (3-4) allowed two runs--neither earned, on just three hits while striking out 10 in 4.2 innings of relief.

The Hawks return to action this Tuesday, March 27 when they travel to New Jersey to take on Montclair State. First pitch is set for 3pm.
