RAMAPO, NJ - The Hunter College softball team suffered a 7-0 setback against the Ramapo Roadrunners in game one and dropped a 9-1 decision to close out the doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.
The Hawks fall to 11-17 on the year while Ramapo moves to 19-5 overall.
In game one, Hunter only managed three hits in the contest as
Crissette Maxwell,
Meghan O'Shea and
Josephine Estevez each connected to get on base. Hunter did make two costly errors while Ramapo exploded for 10 hits in the event to rattle of seven runs for the victory.
The Roadrunners scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and then added two more in the bottom of the third and the sixth innings to take the affair, 7-0.
Angel Iacovetti (7-9) gave up six earned runs on 10 hits in six innings of work to take the loss.
In game two, the Hawks found themselves down 2-0 after Ramapo struck first in the bottom of the second. Much to the Hawks dismay, the Roadrunners added seven runs in the bottom of the third to go ahead, 9-0.
Hunter scored its lone run atop the fourth as
Molly Meehan roped a one out double to right center and O'Shea followed up with a single to center. Iacovetti walked to load the bases and
Kristen McGoldrick delivered on a sac-fly RBI to right, scoring Meehan to make it a 9-1 game but the Hawks would plate no more.
Lauren Stensland (1-5) lasted two innings and allowed four runs on as many hits to suffer the loss in game two.
Hunter will look to snap a five-game skid when they take on conference rival Baruch on Saturday, March 14 at 1pm and 3pm. The games will be played at Lehman College.
