Montclair, N.J. - Montclair State scored eight runs in the second inning to defeat Hunter 8-0 in the first game of a double-header. Eight runs were scored on seven hits and one fielding error by the Hawks defense.
Hunter's Angelica Iacovetti struck out two batters and allowed only two earned runs from the mound. Infielder
Sophia Ponce had six putouts while catcher Nicole Fillisetti had three. Montclair's defense held Hunter's offense to no hits in a shutout win.
The Hawks took an early lead against Montclair State in the second game of a double-header. Brianna Kresback led off with a walk then advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by
Julia Lipovac on the next play.
Molly Meehan hit an RBI single to right field scoring Brianna Kresback for an early 1-0 lead over Montclair State.
Montclair answered with two runs in the first inning, one run in the second and third innings, two runs in the fourth, and one more run on the fifth inning for a 7-1 victory over Hunter.
Pitcher Sara Beck struck out three batters but allowed ten hits and five earned runs.
