Hawks Softball Shuts Out Old Westbury, 4-0

BOX SCORE Old Westbury, NY - Pitcher Erika Colangelo struck out seven batters and held Old Westbury scoreless as the Hawks won their first game of the season 4-0 on Wednesday, March 27th.
 
Meghan O'Shea had two hits and scored the Hawks only run in the first game of the double-header against the College of Old Westbury.
 
In the second inning trailing 2-0, Hunter's Nicole Fillisetti hit an RBI double to left field scoring Meghan O'Shea.
 
The Hawks cut into Old Westbury's lead 2-1 but failed to score another run in the game. Old Westbury added one more run in the bottom of the second inning to seal the victory 3-1.
 
The Hawks recorded nine hits compared to eight total by Old Westbury. Pitcher Amanda Annicaro struck out three batters while Angelica Iacovetti threw in relief adding a strikeout of her own.
 
Hunter's Erica Colangelo guided her team their first win of the season in game two. She pitched the entire game surrendering no runs and striking out seven Old Westbury batters.
 
Offensively, Briana Lombardo led the Hawks with two hits while Sophia Ponce and Molly Meehan both had doubles in the win. Hunter scored two runs in the first inning, one run in the second inning, and added another run in the sixth inning.
 
Molly Meehan sparked the Hawks with an RBI double to left center field scoring Julia Lipovac. Angelica Iacovetti hit an RBI single through the left side later in the first inning scoring Meehan for an early 2-0 lead. Lipovac added to the Hawks lead with a single through the left side in the second inning to score Kristen McGoldrick. In the sixth inning, Sophia Ponce doubled to left field bringing in Briana Lombardo extending Hunter's lead to 4-0. Erica Colangelo kept Old Westbury scoreless and the Hawks picked up their first win of the season.  
 
With this win, Hunter improves to 1-9 overall and will travel to Farmingdale State College on Thursday, March 28th at 3:00 p.m.
