Briana Lombardo Leads Hawks to Win over Farmingdale State

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 Farmingdale, NY – Hunter scored six runs on nine hits in their first game of a double-header against Farmingdale State, winning 6-3 on Thursday, March 28th. Pitcher Briana Lombardo picked up her first win of the season holding Farmingdale State to two earned runs.
 
Hunter trailed 1-0 after the first inning, then tied the game on three hits in the third inning. Brianna Kresback hit a single through the left side for an RBI scoring Briana Lombardo. In the fourth inning Briana Lombardo continued her impressive play with a two RBI single down the left field line scoring Julia Lipovac and Amanda Annicaro. Sophia Ponce singled to right field in the next inning scoring Brianna Kresback extending the Hawks lead to 4-2. Meghan O'Shea sealed the victory with a two RBI single through the left side bringing home Molly Meehan and Rachelly Soto.
 
Pitcher Briana Lombardo won her first collegiate game striking out four batters and holding Farmingdale State to six hits. Angelica Iacovetti picked up the save and added one strikeout of her own.
 
In the second game, Hunter jumped out to an early lead behind an RBI double to centerfield by Sophia Ponce to score Brianna Kresback in the first inning. The Hawks were unable to score any more runs in the game as Farmingdale State finished with six runs on 13 hits.  
 
Meghan O'Shea, Angelica Iacovetti, Erika Colangelo, and Sophia Ponce all recorded hits for the Hawks in game two. Pitcher Leslie Dempsey allowed ten hits but struck out two batters while Erika Colangelo pitched two inning in relief for the Hawks. Farmingdale State went on to win 6-1 splitting the double-header series with Hunter.
 
Hunter (2-10) will open up CUNY conference play in their next game on Saturday, March 30th against the College of Staten Island at 12:00 p.m.
