Randall's Island – Holly Isenberg hit her first homerun of the season with a blast to left field but the Hawks lost both games of the doubleheader matchup against Elmira College, 10-3 and 8-4.
In the early game,
Sophia Ponce led the Hawks with four hits and two RBIs while
Kristen McGoldrick added three hits in a 10-3 loss to Elmira College on Tuesday, April 16
th at Randall's Island.
Hunter scored two runs in the first inning ignited by
Sophia Ponce's RBI single to right field and Holly Isenberg's RBI single to the infield.
Molly Meehan scored Hunter's first run and
Meghan O'Shea added the next run. Elmira tied the game at 2-2 in the next inning on two hits and two runs scored.
Sophia Ponce gave the Hawks the lead in the bottom of the second inning with her second RBI of the game with a single to right field scoring
Molly Meehan for a 3-2 advantage.
Elmira jumped back on top with five runs, on three hits, and three fielding errors by the Hawks defense in the fourth inning. Hunter's Angelica Iacovetti pitched a great game until Elmira jumped ahead. She struck out three batters but surrendered 11 hits and 10 runs.
The Hawks failed to score another run as Elmira scored three more runs in the seventh inning for a 10-3 victory in game one.
In the later game, Elmira charged out to an early 8-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Hunter's
Amanda Annicaro gave up eight hits and six earned runs in three innings of play. Relief pitcher Sara Beck for the Hawks came in and struck out four batters while allowing only two runs.
Hunter's Brianna Kresback put the Hawks on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the fifth inning scoring
Samantha Goon. In the sixth inning, Holly Isenberg hit her first homerun of the season with a blast to left field cutting the Elmira lead to 8-2. The Hawks added on two runs in the seventh inning on an error by the Elmira defense but eventually ran out of gas in an 8-4 defeat.
Brianna Kresback, Nicole Fillisetti, and
Kristen McGoldrick each recorded two hits for Hunter.
Hunter falls to 6-22 overall. The Hawks are up against Brooklyn College at 4:00 p.m. on April 17
th.
