Brooklyn, NY - Sophia Ponce had five hits in a double-header matchup against Brooklyn College, but the Hawks dropped both games as the Bulldogs scored late runs for two come-from-behind wins on Wednesday, April 17
th .
Pitcher Angelica Iacovetti struck out four batters in six innings of work, but Brooklyn hit a two-run homerun in the fifth inning to defeat Hunter in game one of a double-header, 2-1.
Infielder
Sophia Ponce led the Hawks with two hits including an RBI triple to center field in the first inning. Brianna Kresback scored on that play giving Hunter a 1-0 lead. Meaghan O'Shea and
Kristen McGoldrick each recorded hits for the Hawks but Brooklyn scored the game winning run in the fifth inning with a two-run homer by Kim Konklewski.
In the later game,
Sophia Ponce continued her hot streak with three more hits against the Bulldogs. She added a run and led the Hawks defensively with nine putouts.
Hunter's Holly Isenberg singled in the first inning for two scores. Then two batters later, Nicole Fillisetti added an RBI of her own with a single up the middle. The Hawks led 3-0 after the first inning of play on five hits.
The Bulldogs defense held off the Hawks for the remainder of the game. Brooklyn went on to rally for runs in the third, fifth, and seventh innings for their second come-from-behind win. Hunter had 11 total hits compared to six by Brooklyn, but the Bulldogs scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game, 4-3.
Hunter's softball team drops to 6-24 and 2-6 in CUNYAC play. The Hawks will play John Jay College on April 19
th at 3:00 p.m. in their next game.
