Hawks Battle Back To Defeat Ramapo in Extra Innings on Senior Day, 8-7

Randall's Island, NY - Senior Sophia Ponce hit a grand slam homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning tying the game at 6-6, then Meghan O'Shea hit the game winning RBI in the next inning leading the Hawks to a victory against Ramapo 8-7 on Thursday, April 25th on Randall's Island.
 
The Hawks were trailing 6-0 heading into the seventh inning before exploding for six runs, on six hits, and a fielding error by the Ramapo defense to extend the game into extra innings.
 
Meghan O'Shea led the Hawks going three for five at the plate. She added two RBIs and scored one run against the Roadrunners of Ramapo College. Sophia Ponce had two hits including a four-run homer while Molly Meehan, Julia Lipovac, and Briana Lombardo each had two hits.
 
Relief pitcher Sara Beck picked up the win for Hunter striking out two batters and allowed only three hits and one run in three innings pitched. Erika Colangelo started the game pitching five innings and struck out three batters.
 
In the seventh inning, Julia Lipovac scored Hunter's first run of the game on an error by the Ramapo defense, then Briana Lombardo scored next off of an RBI single up the middle by Meghan O'Shea cutting the lead to 6-2. With the bases loaded, senior captain Sophia Ponce tied the game with a grand slam home run to right field scoring herself, Amanda Annicaro, Brianna Kresback, and Meghan O'Shea.
 
Ramapo scored one run the next inning, but Hunter added on two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the victory. Briana Kresback hit an RBI single to center field scoring Kristen McGoldrick for a 7-7 tie. With the winning run on second base, Meghan O'Shea capped a wonderful comeback with a single to right field as Brianna Kresback crossed home plate for the Hawks.
 
Head softball coach Ralph Moroni, honored three seniors prior to the second game of the double-header. Seniors Samantha Goon, Molly Meehan, and Sophia Ponce played their last regular season game for Hunter and inspired their teammates to a come from behind win.
 
In the earlier game, Ramapo shutout Hunter 9-0 behind ten hits. Only Brianna Kresback and Holly Isenberg recorded hits for the Hawks as the Roadrunners scored three runs in the first inning, four in the third inning, and one run in the fourth and fifth innings.
 
Hunter closed out their regular season with a 12-26 overall record and 6-6 CUNYAC conference record. The Hawks will host the CUNYAC Quarterfinals round on May 1st on Randall's Island at 3:00 p.m.
