Softball Rallies From Behind To Sweep St. Joseph’s

Randall's Island, NY – Hunter's softball team swept St. Joseph's 9-5 in game one and 3-2 in the game two on Tuesday, April 2nd.  
 
Briana Lombardo tallied four RBI's on two hits as the Hawks defeated St. Joseph's 9-5 in game one of a double-header match. Hunter exploded for six runs in the fourth inning after trailing 5-2. Lombardo ignited the comeback with a double up the middle scoring Julia Lipovac and Samantha Goon. The Hawks had eight hits including double-base hits by Briana Lombardo, Brianna Kresback, and Holly Isenberg.
 
Pitcher Amanda Annicaro, went three innings surrendering five runs on six hits. Then Angelica Iacovetti picked up the win pitching the final three innings and holding St. Joseph's to no runs and one strike out.
 
Meghan O'Shea led hunter with three hits. Both Brianna Kresback and Julia Lipovac scored two runs each, while Sophia Ponce led defensively with 11 putouts.
 
In the later game, Hunter scored two runs in the final inning to defeat St. Joseph's 3-2.  Trailing by one run in the seventh inning and with two outs, the Hawks rallied for a late win. Meaghan O'Shea singled to right field then Sophia Ponce reached base on a fielding error scoring Brianna Kresback. Then with the bases loaded Julia Lipovac singled to right field for an RBI scoring Meaghan O'Shea for the game winning run.
 
Pitcher Erika Colangelo held St. Joseph's to four hits while striking out five batters picking up her second win of the season.
 
The Hawks (4-12) will play York College on Wednesday, April 3rd in Jamaica, NY at 3:00 p.m. in their next match.
