Jamaica, NY – The Hawks recorded this first shutout of the season defeating York 12-0 in game one of a double-header. In the second game, they exploded for 21 hits and 15 runs in the second inning for a 21-5 victory.
Pitcher Briana Lombardo struck out five batters, then at the plate led with four hits carrying the Hawks to a 12-0 shutout win in game one against York College. Lombardo surrendered three hits, walked no batters, and held York scoreless.
Hunter scored four runs in the second inning, three in the third inning, four in the fourth inning, and one run in the fifth inning behind Brianna Kresback's four RBI's.
Brianna Kresback hit her first triple of the season in the fourth inning expanding the Hawks lead to 11-0.
Molly Meehan added three runs, while
Julia Lipovac, Briana Lombardo, and
Kristen McGoldrick all had two runs each.
In the later game, the Hawks scored 15 runs in the second inning on nine hits and five errors by the York defense. Hunter cruised to a 21-5 victory sweeping York in the double-header matchup.
Leslie Dempsey had four hits and
Julia Lipovac had three to lead the Hawks.
Meghan O'Shea,
Sophia Ponce, and Leslie Dempsey each recorded two doubles while
Julia Lipovac and Nicole Fillisetti had one each.
The Hawks had 21 total hits with 18 RBI's; both season-highs.
Sophia Ponce led with four RBI's and
Meghan O'Shea and Nicole Fillisettti both had three RBI's. Pitcher Leslie Dempsey picked up the win striking out three batters.
Hunter (6-12, 2-2) is currently on a four game win streak and will look to continue their solid play in their next game against Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA at 1:00 p.m.
