Staten Island, NY – Hunter eliminated Baruch from the 2013 CUNYAC Championships with a 5-4 win in the semifinals. Erika Colangelo struck out four batters and held off the late surge for a Hawks victory.
Pitcher Erika Colangelo led Hunter to a semifinal win over Baruch in the 2013 CUNYAC Softball Championships by striking out four batters and only surrendering four earned runs.
Brianna Kresback and Briana Lombardo both recorded doubles as Hunter tallied eight total hits. Lombardo added on three RBIs while
Meghan O'Shea and
Julia Lipovac each had one RBI.
Hunter scored first on a defensive error by Baruch in the third inning allowing Brianna Kresback to score the first run of the game. Baruch responded with two runs in the bottom of the third inning taking a 2-1 advantage.
In the sixth inning, Brianna Lombardo hit a double to left center field scoring
Amanda Annicaro,
Julia Lipovac, and Nicole Fillisetti for a 4-2 Hawks lead.
Sophia Ponce scored Hunter's final run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice-fly to left field by
Julia Lipovac.
With a 5-2 lead in the final inning, Erika Colangelo held off the Baruch rally by surrendering two runs on two hits for a 5-4 victory for the Hawks. Hunter stays alive in the 2013 CUNYAC Softball Championships with the win over Baruch and went on to face Staten Island in the later game.
The Hawks advanced to face Staten Island in the 6:00 p.m. game for an automatic bid to the 2013 CUNYAC Softball Championship game. Hunter found minimal offense behind six hits and a home run for a 12-1 defeat.
In the second inning, Nicole Fillisetti hit a home run for an early 1-0 Hunter lead over Staten Island. The Hawks were unable to keep the lead as Staten Island scored three runs in the second inning, four runs in the third inning, and five runs in the fourth inning.
Hunter hopes at a 2013 CUNYAC Softball Championships remains alive despite their lost to Staten Island. The Hawks will play Brooklyn College on Saturday, May 4
th at 12:00 p.m. for a chance to play in the championship game versus Staten Island.
