BOX SCORE 2 New York, NY – The Hunter Hawks softball team swept Lehman College 8-0 and 17-9 in a double-header matchup Thursday afternoon at Randall's Island. With both wins, the Hawks improve to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in CUNYAC play.
In game 1 Hawks starter
Sara Beck (1-1) went the distance and was dominant, giving up only 1 hit and striking out nine Lightning batters. Beck lost her no-hit bid with two outs in the fifth inning.
The Hawks busted out offensively, smacking 10 hits.
Briana Kresback went 2-for-3 and hit her first homerun of the season; she scored 2 runs and had an RBI.
Meghan O'Shea and
Rachely Soto both went 1-for-2 with a run and 2 RBI.
In game 2 the Hawks continued their hot hitting belting out 11 hits and taking advantage of nine Lightning errors.
Julia Lipovac went 2-for-4 with a homerun, 4 RBI and 3 runs scored to lead the Hawks offense.
Victoria Slavik went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and 3 runs.
The Hawks showed tremendous heart coming back from a 6-2 deficit to score five runs in the 3
rd inning thanks to a two run triple by Lipovac.
They responded in the 5
th and 6
th when the Lightning had taken a lead. In the 6
th, Lipovac hit a 2-run homer,
Nicole Fillisetti and Kresback had RBI singles, and
Kristen McGoldrick had an RBI double.
Erika Colangelo pitched the final 2 innings giving up 1 earned run on 1 hit to get her 2
nd win of the season.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday when they face another CUNYAC rival, College of Staten Island. The first game of the double-header is scheduled to begin at 12pm.
