BOX SCORE 2 New York, NY – The Hunter softball team swept Baruch College in a double-header match-up on Thursday afternoon.
The Hawks defeated the Bearcats 15-0 in game one and 11-0 in game 2. With the wins the Hawks snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 9-8 overall and 6-0 in CUNYAC play.
In game one, starting pitcher
Sara Beck was dominant on the mound and in the box. She pitched 5 innings of one hit ball with 12 strikeouts on her way to her 4
th win of the season. She also went 3-for-4 with a HR, 4RBI and 2 runs scored at the plate.
All nine Hawks batters recorded at least one hit and eight of the nine batters scored one run.
The scoring started in the 2
nd inning with Beck singling home
Kristen McGoldrick (3-for-4, RBI, 3R) and
Briana Lombardo (1-for-3, 2R) to make it 2-0.
In the 3
rd inning the Hawks busted out for 10 runs.
Meghan O'Shea (1-for-4, HR, 2RBI) hit a lead off homerun to start the barrage,
Julia Lipovac (1-for-4, 2R) scored two runs in the inning and
Briana Kresback (3-for-5, 2RBI, R) knocked in two runs with a single. The Hawks took advantage of poor defense to score five unearned runs.
Beck ended the scoring in the 5
th inning with a 3-run homerun to make the score 15-0.
In game two,
Amanda Annicaro went the distance in shutting out the Bearcats. She only allowed four hits and struck out six batters picking up her 3
rd win of the season.
The offense picked up where it left off in game one, scoring two runs in the 1
st inning. In the 2
nd Kresback (4-for-4, 3R, RBI) would triple home McGoldrick (2-for-3, 2R) and then score on a double by CUNYAC Rookie of the Week
Taylor Crofts.
In the 4
th the Hawks took advantage of the defense to score two unearned runs. The other run that inning came on an RBI single by O'Shea to make the score 8-0
The scoring concluded in the 5
th inning with an RBI single by Crofts (2-for-3, 2RBI, 3R) and
Victoria Slavik (2-for-4, 3RBI) and a two run double by Lipovac (1-for-4).
The Hawks return to action Monday afternoon when they take on CUNYAC rival CSI. The double-header will be played at Queens College starting at 2pm.
