Softball Goes Down Against Mt. St. Vincent

Bronxville, NY – The Hunter softball team lost to the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a non-league double-header on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Dolphins jumped on the Hawks early in game one to win 7-1 and won a close game two 5-2.
 
In game one the Dolphins took an early 1-0 lead on a homerun by Maffei. They blew the game open in the 3rd inning by scoring five unearned runs to make the score 7-0.
 
Hawks starter Amanda Annicaro pitched 2.2 innings and gave up seven runs (2 earned) on nine hits. Sara Beck came in for relief for the final 3.1 innings and struck out five, surrendering only three hits.
 
The Hawks got on the board in the 7th inning when Meghan O'Shea scored on a Dolphins fielding error on a ball hit by Briana Lombardo.
 
In game two the Hawks got on the board in the 1st inning on an Aleta Terrill single that scored Julia Lipovac.
 
The Dolphins evened the score in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly. They scored three more runs in the 4th inning to make the score 4-1 and would add one more in the 6th.
 
The Hawks 7th inning got off to a great start with a leadoff single by Kristen McGoldrick but the next batter, Melanie Delgado lined into a double play. Briana Kresback then lined the next pitch for a single; she would later come around to score on a Taylor Crofts RBI single. The rally ended on a fly out to end the game.
 
The Hawks drop to 9-14 on the season and return to action Saturday afternoon against St. Joseph's College-LI. The first game of the double-header is scheduled to begin at 3:30pm.
