BOX SCORE 2 Patchogue, NY – The Hunter softball team lost both games of a double-header to St. Joseph's College on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles won tight contest 2-0 in game one and easily took game two, 7-1.
In game one, Hawks starting pitcher
Sara Beck pitched well enough to win but she received no run support as the Hawks were held to five hits by Golden Eagles starter Mallory McClafferty. Beck (4-4) went 6 innings giving up two runs on five hits while striking out six batters.
The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the 4
th inning on an RBI double by Nicole Reda. Reda would strike again in the 6
th driving home another run to make the score 2-0.
The Hawks had chances to score but McClafferty got key outs when she needed them. In the 2
nd,
Meghan O'Shea led off by reaching on an infield error, she would eventually make it to third base but was stranded there by an inning ending ground out.
In the 6
th the Hawks put
Briana Kresback and
Julia Lipovac on first and second only to see the two out rally end with another groundout.
In game two the Hawks fell behind 2-0 in the 2
nd inning on a sacrifice fly and fielding error. The Golden Eagles put two more runs on the board in the 3
rd and 4
th innings on an RBI groundout and RBI single.
In the 5
th inning
Nicole Fillisetti singled home
Aleta Terrill to make it 4-1 but the Golden Eagles scored three more runs in the 5
th and 6
th innings.
Hawks starter
Erika Colangelo (3-6) pitched 6 innings giving up seven runs on 11 hits while striking out five batters.
The Hawks have fallen to 9-16 on the season and they return to action Tuesday when they take on Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken. The first game of the double-header is scheduled to begin at 3pm.
