Hawks Take Two From Purchase

New York, NY – The Hunter softball team swept Purchase College in a double-header matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island.

The Hawks won the first game 6-5 and completed the sweep with a 5-2 victory in the second game.

In game one, the Hawks got on the board early with 3 runs in the 1st inning. CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Victoria Slavik hit a 2-run single to start the scoring. The next batter, Briana Lombardo, knocked in another run to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

The Hawks scored two more runs in the 4th inning off Panthers starting pitcher Toni-Ann Licata (0-1). Kristen McGoldrick scored on an error by Licata and Meghan O'Shea would plate Taylor Crofts with an RBI double.

In the 6th, Julia Lipovac knocked in O'Shea with an RBI double.

Erika Colangelo started the game for the Hawks and picked up her 3rd win of the season. Colangelo cruised through the first 5 innings giving up only one run. Her final line was, 6 innings, 12 hits, 4 ER, 2 BB and 9 K's

In game 2, the Hawks got behind in the 1st when leadoff hitter Christine Leo, tripled and then scored on a single by Licata. Panthers starter Nicole Fortuna (2-2) held the Hawks in check for the first four innings, only allowing a line-drive home-run to O'Shea in the bottom of the 4th. The home-run was the first of O'Shea's Hunter career.

In the 5th, the Hawks knocked around Fortuna scoring 4 runs on 5 hits. Nicole Fillisetti hit a double to start off the inning. Toniann Kirk came in to pinch run and scored on McGoldrick's double to make the score 2-1. Briana Kresback would then plate McGoldrick with a single and Crofts would plate McGoldrick with a double to make the score 4-1. O'Shea doubled in Crofts to make the score 5-1.

In the top of the 6th the Panthers got one run back with a home-run by Licata.

Hawks starter Sara Beck had her second consecutive strong outing, picking up her 2nd win of the season. She scattered five hits while only giving up two runs and striking out seven.

The Hawks return to action tomorrow with a CUNYAC double-header against York College in Queens. The first game is scheduled to start at 3:30 pm.
