Hawks Drop Double-Header To Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ – The Hunter softball team lost a double-header contest to Ramapo College on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Ramapo 5, Hunter 2
 
The Hawks fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the 1st when Ramapo's Kim LaPenta scored on a wild pitch to open up the scoring. Nicole Melendez would cross home on a sacrifice fly by Melanie Walling.
 
The game would even up with Hunter scoring a run in the 2nd and 3rd innings. In the top of the 2nd Taylor Crofts would single home Briana Lombardo to make it 2-1. Meghan O'Shea and Victoria Slavik would start the 3rd inning with back-to-back singles. O'Shea would come around to score on an RBI ground out to second base by Sara Beck to make it 2-2.
 
The Roadrunners would score three runs in their half of the 3rd inning on an RBI double by LaPenta who would come around to score along with Melendez on an RBI single by Danielle Saporito to make the score 5-2.
 
Erika Colangelo would pitch 3.1 innings in relief of starter Amanda Annicaro who went 2.2 innings giving up five runs on five hits. Colangelo would surrender only one hit in her relief appearance.
 
Ramapo 6, Hunter 5
 
The Hawks fell behind 4-0 after three innings when LaPenta scored on a wild pitch and Melendez scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 after one. In the 3rd Walling and Saporitio would score on back-to-back singles by Hernandez and Melissa Moreno.
 
Hunter would score the next five runs to take a 5-4 lead.
 
In the 4th O'Shea and Slavik would score on back-to-back wild pitches to make the score 4-2. In the 5th Crofts would score on an RBI single by Slavik to make it 4-3.
 
The Hawks would take the lead in the 7th thanks to three straight singles to start the 7th inning. Julia Lipovac would score the tying run on single by Nicole Fillisetti and Lombardo would score the go-ahead run on a single by Crofts.
 
The Roadrunners would win the game with one out in the bottom of the inning, as Grace Brennan and Nicole Hernandez would score the winning runs on a double to left field by Moreno.
 
Beck would come back to pitch 6.1 innings giving up five earned runs on 14 hits while striking out five batters.
 
The Hawks fall to 9-20 on the season. They close out the regular season Friday afternoon when they take on University of Scranton in a non-conference double-header. The first game is scheduled to start at 3pm.
