Hawks Split Against Scranton

New York, NY – The Hunter softball team split against the University of Scranton in a double-header match up played Friday afternoon.
 
Scranton 9, Hunter 6
 
The Hawks fell behind in the 2nd inning by giving up seven runs on seven hits with two defensive errors. Senior starting pitcher Amanda Annicaro went 1.2 innings giving up five earned runs on six hits. Sara Beck entered in relief and was charged with one run in the 2nd inning.
 
The Hawks chased Royals starter Simon in the bottom of the 3rd tagging her with four runs before she could record an out. Erika Colangelo led off the inning with a walk that was followed by a single by Briana Kresback. The next batter, Aletta Terrill reached on an error allowing Colangelo to score. Meghan O'Shea would single home Kresback, the next batter Victoria Slavik would single home O'Shea and Terrill making the score 7-4.
 
In the 5th inning the Hawks would get two runs to cut the Royals lead to 7-6 thanks to two-out 2RBI single by senior Rachely Soto that scored fellow senior Julia Lipovac and Slavik.
 
The Royals would tack on an insurance run in the 6th and 7th innings off of Beck on an RBI single by Romano in the 6th and an RBI double by Titor.
 
Hunter 11, Scranton 9
 
The Hawks would win game two in dramatic fashion, 11-9, on a two-out walk-off homerun by junior Meghan O'Shea. The win snapped the Hawks 13 game-losing streak.
 
In the bottom of the 1st the Hawks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Kresback would lead off the inning with a single; she would advance to second on a single by O'Shea. Both would move up a base on a walk issued to Slavik and Kresback would score on a single by Lipovac. Nicole Fillisetti would plate O'Shea and Slavik with her single to make the score 3-0. Lipovac would come home on a passed ball making it 4-0 after the 1st.
 
The Hawks scored three more runs in the 2nd inning to run the score to 7-1. With one out, Kresback would double and score on a wild pitch. Slavik would hit a sacrifice fly scoring Terrill and O'Shea would score on another Royals wild pitch.
 
In the 3rd Hunter tacked on two more runs on back-to-back RBI singles by O'Shea and Slavik, making it 9-1.
 
The Royals would chip away getting one run in the 4th and two runs in the 5th. In the 6th they would score three more tying the game at 9.
 
In the bottom of the 7th, the Hawks would make two quick outs but Terrill would single to keep the game alive for O'Shea and she would come through by smacking the walk-off homerun to give the Hawks the 11-9 victory.

With the split the Hawks improve to 10-21 on the season. They close out the regular season Saturday morning with a double-header against John Jay. The first game is scheduled to start at 10am.
