Hawks Wrap Up Regular Season With Sweep of John Jay

Staten Island, NY – The Hunter softball team swept John Jay in a double-header matchup on Sunday evening. Hunter won the first game 6-0 and took the second game 7-0.

With the wins the Hawks finish the regular season with a 12-21 overall record and an 8-4 record in CUNYAC, making them the 3rd seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Softball Championships.

Hunter 6, John Jay 0

The Hawks got on the board in the 1st inning thanks to a 2RBI single by starting pitcher Sara Beck, which scored Julia Lipovac and Briana Kresback to make the score 2-0.

In the 2nd inning Sierra Noud would lead off with a single and would come around to score on a triple by the next batter, Kristen McGoldrick.

The Hawks would tack on two more runs in the 4th inning. The bases would be loaded for Briana Lombardo who smacked a single which scored Meghan O'Shea and Lipovac to make it 6-0.

Beck was dominant in the circle going 7 innings and giving up only three hits and striking out six John Jay batters to pick up her 5th win of the season.

Hunter 7, John Jay 0

In game two the Hawks starter Erika Colangelo would keep John Jay batters in check and late runs by the Hawks would secure the 7-0 victory. Colangelo pitched 7 innings giving up six hits and striking out a season-high nine batters.

The Hawks would take a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Colangelo would hit a sacrifice fly that would score Lombardo who led off the inning with a double.

In the 5th Colangelo would help her own cause by leading off the inning with a double, she would come around to score two batters later on a triple by Kresback to make it 2-0 Hunter.

The Hawks would put the game out of reach in the 5th inning by scoring five runs on three hits. Back-to-back singles by Noud and McGoldrick would make it 4-0 Hunter. The next batter, Kresback, would hit her 2nd triple of the game and would clear the bases making it 7-0.

The Hawks return to action Wednesday when they take on Baruch College in the 1st Round of the CUNYAC Championships. Check huntercollegeathletics.com for game time, location and directions to the field.
