Softball Drops Double-Header Against Manhattanville

New York, NY – The Hunter softball team was swept in a double-header matchup against Manhattanville College on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks dropped game one 9-0 and game two 10-2.

In game one, Valliants starting pitcher Alyssa Taylor struck out eight batters en route to a perfect game. She allowed no runs, no hits and no base runners.

Taylor also went 2-for-3 with a homerun, 4RBI and 2 runs scored leading the offensive attack. Shelbee Damianos went 3-for-4 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. The Valiants jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning and put the game out of reach in the 3rd when they scored 5 runs. Taylor's 2-run homerun in the 4th sealed the first game for the Valiants.

Hawks starting pitcher Sierra Noud (0-2) lasted only two innings giving up seven runs and six hits. Sara Beck pitched the final three innings in relief giving up two runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

In game two the Hawks once again fell behind early trailing 3-0 when they came to bat in the top of the 1st. Briana Kresback (1-for-4, K) led off the inning with a single, Taylor Crofts (0-for-2, BB) reached on an error and Julia Lipovac walked to load the bases. The next batter, Victoria Slavik (1-for-2, RBI) was hit by a pitch, scoring Kresback to make the score 3-1. The next two batters would strike out, ending the Hawks threat.

The Valiants pushed across three more runs in the 2nd inning and two more runs in the 3rd inning making the score 8-1.

After a lead-off double by Nicole Fillisetti, pinch-runner Toniann Kirk scored on Sara Beck's single to make the score 8-2. The Hawks managed to scratch out nine hits with Lipovac (2-for-2, BB) and Kristen McGoldrick (2-for-3) being the only Hawks with multiple hits.

The Valiants would score two more runs in the 6th inning on a leadoff home-run by Shauna Mulkerin and an RBI single by Melissa Iarocci.

Hawks starter Erika Colangelo pitched 2.1 innings giving up eight runs on six with three strikeouts. Beck came in to pitch the final 3.2 innings giving up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.

With the two losses the Hawks drop to 7-8 on the season. They get back to action tomorrow afternoon with a double-header against CUNYAC rival Baruch College. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3pm.
