BOX SCORE 2 Flushing, NY – The Hunter Hawks split against Brooklyn College and CSI at day 1 of the 2014 CUNYAC Softball Tournament on Friday afternoon. The Hawks will now face Brooklyn Colllege Saturday morning at 10:30 am.
Hunter 8, Brooklyn 1Hawks starting pitcher
Sara Beck was unhittable in her seven innings of work. Beck allowed one run on three hits while striking out three Bulldogs. The only run she surrendered was on a 1
st inning homerun by Meghan Caravello.
The Hawks got one run back in the 2
nd inning on an RBI single by
Briana Lombardo. In the 3
rd inning Hunter score another run thanks to an RBI single by
Victoria Slavik.
In the 5
th inning the Hawks would tack on two more runs. Slavik would smack a one-out double and come around to score on a double by
Aleta Terrill to make it 3-1. Terrill would score the fourth Hawk run on a wild pitch.
With two runners on the 7
th pinch hitter
Sierra Noud would plate Slavik on a fielder's choice. The bases would be loaded for
Taylor Crofts would reach on an infield error allowing Lombardo and Terrill to score. Noud would come around to score on a single by
Briana Kresback to make the score 8-1.
Slavik led the Hawks going 4-for-5 with an RBI, two runs.
CSI 4, Hunter 2The Hawks fell behind 3-0 in the 3
rd inning when CSI would get their runs on two RBI groundouts and an RBI single.
In the 5
th the Hawks would get a lead-off double by
Aleta Terrill. The next batter,
Briana Lombardo would walk to put runners on 2
nd and 3
rd for CUNYAC Rookie of the Year
Taylor Crofts. Crofts would line a single into left field to plate Terrill and Lombardo to make it 3-2.
In the bottom of the inning CSI would take advantage of a Hawk error to push across one more run to make the score 4-2.
The loss forces the Hawks into a rematch with Brooklyn College at 10:30 am. The Hawks will need three wins tomorrow in order to secure the school's 15
th championship and first since 2009.
