Hawks Advance To CUNY Championship Against CSI

BOX SCORE Flushing, NY – The Hunter Hawks came into the second day of the CUNY Championship needing three victories in order to secure the school's 15th championship and first since 2009.

In an elimination game against Brooklyn College the Hawks took advantage of six Bulldog errors and score six unearned runs on their way to a 9-2 victory.

The Hawks put pressure on the Bulldogs right away in the 1st inning. Briana Kresback laced a one out single to center and would come around to score one batter later thanks to a double by Victoria Slavik to make it 1-0 Hawks.

In the 2nd the Hawks would have two runners on when Taylor Crofts came to bat. Crofts would hit one that would be misplayed by the shortstop, allowing Briana Lombardo to score.  The Hawks would load the bases for Meghan O'Shea, who ripped an RBI single to make it 3-0 Hawks.

In the 3rd Julia Lipovac would lead off with a single and she would come around to score on a single by Hawks starting pitcher Sara Beck to make it 4-0 Hawks.

The Bulldogs would get one run back in the bottom of the 3rd thanks to a two out RBI single by Kayla Hill making the score 4-1.

In the 5th the Hawks would score an unearned run when the leftfield dropped the third out of the inning allowing Terrill to score to make it 5-1.

The Hawks would tack on three insurance runs in the 6th when Crofts would beat the throw home from the Bulldogs leftfielder. Kresback would score thanks to an infield error. Lombardo would smack a single to right that would score Slavik to make it 8-1.

The Bulldogs would smack back-to-back singles with one out but Beck would escape without giving up a run.

In the 7th the Hawks loaded the bases and would add on one more on a sacrifice fly by O'Shea to make it 9-1.

Beck was dominant going the distance giving up only one run on eight hits and striking out five.

The Hawks will now face College of Staten Island for the right to decide the 2014 champion. The Hawks will need to win two against the Dolphins in order to win the title.
