Madison, NJ - The Hawks took on three teams at the Drew Fall Classic on Saturday, November 7 and came away with one win to push their overall record out to 1-3 on the year. The Purple and Gold fell to NJIT, 24-3 and Lafayette 17-10 but edged out Drew by the narrowest of margins, 14-13 for the lone victory.
Against NJIT,
Joseph Brajdic scored the lone bout win in sabre while
Julien Dieck continued his strong freshman campaign with two wins in epee which capped the Hawk's three total wins.
The foil squad comprised of
Indiana Kuffer, Emilio Castro and
Alkaya Massaly came away with a 6-3 victory over Lafayette. Massaly earned two victories while Castro took three. Kuffer snagged a win against Brent Staples. However,
Hector Moran was the only athlete from the sabre team to grab a victory. In epee,
James Ferraiolo took two of his three bouts while
Dylan Nelson-Epstein earned one.
Hunter took a huge 8-1 lead after the conclusion of the foil bouts thanks to the efforts of Massaly, Castro and
Michael Khodorkovsky while the sabre team dropped their decision, 7-2 to make it a tight 10-8 match heading into epee. Despite falling 5-4, the Hawks still managed to come away with the 14-13 victory, their first of the season.
The fencing team returns to action on Sunday, November 15 when they head up to Poughkeepsie, NY to compete in the Vassar Invitational.
