BOX SCORE 2 NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter softball team opened up their 2015 season with a convincing doubleheader sweep of Baruch College on Monday afternoon. The Hawks are now 2-0 overall and 2-0 in CUNYAC play.
In game one, the Hawks struck early in the first inning when
Taylor Crofts would manufacture a run on her own. She led off the inning for the Hawks with a single and then would steal second then take third on a passed ball. Crofts would get the Hawks on the board when she would score on another passed ball to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
The Hawks would take control of the game in the second inning scoring 12 runs. All nine Hawk batters scored a run during the inning, with Crofts,
Briana Kresback and
Christine Kline all scoring two runs each. The Hawks would score 10 more runs in the third inning, having eight of their nine batters score, with
Briana Monaco,
Stevie Rae Micheli each scoring two runs.
The Hawks got a three inning performance out of
Erika Colangelo who surrendered no runs in her three innings.
Sara Beck came in and pitched the final two innings giving up two runs.
The second game of the double-header went much like the first game with the Hawks jumping on the Bearcats early. Kesback would get the Hawks on the board in the first inning with a two-run home run to right center field to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. They would put two more runs on the board to make it 4-0 at the end of the first inning. In the second inning the Hawks would plate nine runs thanks to
Meghan O'Shea's five RBIs in the inning. The Hawks would score six runs in the third inning and one in the fourth to secure a 20-0 victory.
Danielle Zurek went five innings in her first collegiate game, giving up only one run while striking out seven Bearcats.
The Hawks return to the field Tuesday afternoon when they will host Moravian College in a doubleheader, with first pitch at 3pm.
