BOX SCORE 2 STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Hunter softball team split against College of Staten Island in a doubleheader matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks came back to win game one 7-5, snapping the Dolphins 25-game CUNYAC winning streak but they dropped game two 7-1 making their record 12-2 overall and 7-1 in CUNYAC play.
In game one the Hawks overcame a 5-4 deficit, scoring three runs in the 6th and 7th innings to win 7-5.
Sara Beck started the game and lasted only three innings, giving up four runs on four hits while striking out only three Dolphins.
Erika Colangelo pitched the final four innings in relief to earn her fifth win of the season. The junior gave up one run on four hits while striking out two batters.
The Hawks took a lead in the 4th inning on a two-run single by
Aleta Terrill and RBI single by
Christine Kline making it 4-1 midway through the 4th inning. The Dolphins scored four runs in the bottom of the 4th to take a 5-4 lead.
In the Hawks half of the 6th inning Kline would hit a sac fly to rightfield, scoring
Kristen McGoldrick to tie the score at 5, then
Taylor Crofts hit another sac fly scoring Terrill to give the Hawks a 6-5 lead.
Stephanie Abolt added another insurance run for the Hawks in the 7th with an RBI single into left field, scoring
Meghan O'Shea.
In game two, Colangelo started for the Hawks managing only to get through three innings, giving up four hits and two runs. Beck would come in to start the 4th inning and would pitch 2.2 innings of relief giving up five runs on seven hits.
The Hawks bats were shut down by Dolphins starter Nicolette Trapani who went the distance limiting the Hawks to only three hits.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday April 14 when they will host John Jay College in a doubleheader starting at 3pm.
