BOX SCORE 2 NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter softball team split in their doubleheader on Thursday afternoon against St. Joseph's College. The Hawks dropped the first game to the Golden Eagles 16-8 but came back and won game two 4-1 to improve their record to 3-1.
The Golden Eagles put nine runs on the board in the top of the first inning but the Hawks would chip away in the bottom half of the inning scoring four runs to cut the lead to 9-4. The Hawks hit three singles in a row to start their half of the inning.
Aleta Terrill would earn a walk scoring
Taylor Crofts, then Stephanie Abolt would smack a single scoring
Briana Kresback.
Amy Pirozek would plate two Hawks with a single to make the score 9-4 at the end of the first inning.
The Hawks would score one run in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings cutting the Golden Eagles lead to 9-7.
In the 5th inning, the Golden Eagles would get one run back, scoring on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the inning,
Christine Kline would score on a groundout making the score 10-8.
St. Joseph's would add six more runs in the 6th and 7th innings to secure a 16-8 victory.
In game two, the Hawks got a stellar pitching performance from
Sara Beck and timely hitting.,
The Hawks got on the board in the 1st inning when Kresback would score on a
Victoria Slavik single to make it 1-0 Hawks.
Beck would pitch out of a jam in the 2nd inning striking out Kamalic stranding a runner on third base.
In the bottom of the 4th the Hawks would add one more run when
Briana Monaco singled home Slavik to make it 2-0.
The Golden Eagles would get one run back in the top of the 6th on an RBI single by J. Tierney.
The Hawks would add two more insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th when Monaco singled home Slavik again. Monaco would come around to score two batters later when
Kristen McGoldrick singled to make it 4-1 Hawks.
Beck would pitch seven innings, giving up one run on five hits, while striking out seven.
