BOX SCORE 2 SCRANTON, PA - The Hunter softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader matchup against the University of Scranton on Friday afternoon, falling 12-6 in game one and 10-5 in game two. The losses drop the Hawks to 16-6 on the season as they prepare for the CUNY Athletic Conference Tournament.
In game one, the Hawks took an early 2-0 lead in their half of the 1st inning, scoring their first run on an RBI fielders choice by
Briana Monaco and scored an unearned run when
Victoria Slavik scored on an fielding error by the Royals third baseman. Scranton would tie the score at 2 in their half of the inning, scoring two unearned runs.
Briana Kresback would hit a grand slam in the top of the 2nd, her third of the season, giving the Hawks a 6-2 lead.
The Royals would take control of the game in the 4th inning turning a 6-5 deficit into an 11-6 lead.
Taylor Crofts and
Aleta Terrill each had two hits and a run scored for the Hawks, and Kresback finished the game going 1-for3, with 2R and 4RBI.
Sara Beck started the game for the Hawks, going 3.2 innings, giving up a season high six earned runs and 10 hits.
Danielle Zurek pitched the final 2.1 innings giving up only one unearned run and one hit.
In game two, the Royals continued their hot hitting jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
The Hawks would get on the board in the 5th inning scoring three runs, first on an RBI double by
Christine Kline and a two-run single by
Annalise McClellan that scored Kline and
Meghan O'Shea.
In the 5th inning the Royals would take a 9-3 lead, scoring four more runs.
In the 6th, Kline would smash a two-run single that scored Crofts and Kresback to cut the lead to 9-5.
Erika Colangelo started for the Hawks and pitched 4.2 innings, giving up nine runs but only three earned on seven hits. Zurek came in, in relief pitching the final 1.1 innings giving up one run and one hit.
The Hawks will next return to the diamond next week as they enter the CUNYAC Tournament as the #2 seed, earning a 1st round bye.
