Hawks Sweep Doubleheader Vs. York

Colangelo & Beck Combine For Perfect Game In Game 1

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter softball team defeated York College in both games of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Randall's Island Field #12. The Hawks won the first game 19-0 and the second game 13-0. The Hawks improve to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in CUNYAC play.

In game one, pitchers Erika Colangelo and Sara Beck combined to pitch a perfect game, not allowing a single base runner in five innings, while striking out 13 Cardinals.

The Hawks offense got started right away in the bottom of the first inning as the team scored eight runs. Victoria Slavik continued her hot start to the season when she smacked a 2-run double scoring Taylor Crofts and Briana Kresback to make it 2-0 Hawks. Amy Pirozek drove-in Slavik and Meghan O'Shea and then would come around to score on a fielders choice to make it 5-0. Crofts would get up again and smash a 3-run homerun to leftfield making it 8-0 Hawks at the end of the 1st inning.

In the 2nd inning the Hawks added two more runs, one on freshman Marie Mazzeo's first career hit and another on a fielders choice which scored Christine Kline, making it 10-0 Hawks at the end of 2 innings.

The Hawks would load the bases in the 3rd inning and would earn two bases loaded walks and then the Hawks would plate three more runs on singles by Kresback and Melanie Delgado, to make it 16-0. O'Shea would score on a throwing error by the Cardinals to make it 17-0.

In the bottom of the 4th, O'Shea and Pirozek would each record RBI singles capping off the Hawks offensive onslaught making it 19-0.

Colangelo bounced back pitching 3 innings, allowing no hits and no walks while striking out eight, Beck pitched the final two innings striking out five of the six Cardinals she faced.

In game two, the Hawks would once again get on the board in every inning. Slavik smacked a double in the 1st inning scoring Kresback to make it 1-0.

In the 2nd inning Kristen McGoldrick would plate Stephanie Abolt with an RBI single, followed by Nicole Fillisetti scoring from third on a passed ball to make it 3-0. Kresback would rip a double that scored McGoldrick but the big blow came from Pirozek, who smashed a grand slam to make it 8-0 Hawks at the end of two innings of play.

The 3rd inning saw the Hawks add three more runs on a single a walk and groundout, while in the 4th they added two more on a double and a fielders choice.

Danielle Zurek held the Cardinals in check, pitching all five innings while only giving up two hits and striking out five.

Leading the offense for the Hawks was Amy Pirozek (4-for-9, 2R, 8RBI), Taylor Crofts (2-for-3, 4R, 5RBI, 2BB), Briana Kresback (5-for-6, 4R, 4RBI) and Victoria Slavik (2-for-2, 2R, 3RBI, 2BB).

The Hawks return to action Saturday April 4 when they will take on SUNY Old Westbury.
