Hawks Take Two From Mt. St. Vincent

Hawks Win 5-4 In Game 1 & 13-5 In Game 2

NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter softball team extended their winning streak to nine games with a doubleheader sweep of the College of Mount St. Vincent on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks took game one 5-4 and then game two 13-5.

In game one the Hawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Stephanie Abolt smacked an RBI single that scored Briana Monaco. The Hawks would load the bases later in the inning and get another run when Taylor Crofts was hit by a pitch forcing in Abolt, making the score 2-0 Hawks.

Abolt and Monaco would strike again in the bottom of the 5th inning, first Monaco hit a 2-run double scoring Meghan O'Shea and Briana Kresback making it 4-0. Monaco would come around and score on the next pitch when Abolt smacked a single, giving the Hawks a 5-0 lead.

The Dolphins would score four runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Sara Beck started the game for the Hawks going 5.1 innings giving up four runs and six hits while striking out five. Erika Colangelo pitched the final 1.2 innings earning the save, surrendering only one hit.

In game two the Hawks fell behind in the first inning when the Dolphins would score three runs off of starting pitcher Danielle Zurek.

In the bottom half of the inning the Hawks would answer back and tie the score when O'Shea would plate two runs with a double and then Monaco would hit a sac fly scoring O'Shea.

In the third inning the Dolphins would take back the lead but the Hawks would roar back scoring six runs. Monaco would smack another double scoring two for the Hawks. They would add three more runs, two on RBI singles by Nicole Fillisetti and Crofts plus another run on an RBI groundout by Kristen McGoldrick.

The Hawks would cap off the scoring in the 5th inning when Victoria Slavik smacked a 2-run home run to right-center field, her first collegiate home run giving the Hawks an 11-5 lead. The hawks would add two more runs, one on an RBI double by Christene Kline and the final on a bases loaded walk.

Monaco led the Hawks at the plate going a combined 4-for-5, 4R, 5RBI. Slavik went 5-for-5 in game two with four doubles and a HR.

The Hawks are scheduled to return to action Saturday April 11 when they will take on CUNYAC foe College of Staten Island at 12pm.
